Make a difference by volunteering! Your support confirms the importance of math, engineering, science and technology to our youth. The Northern California FIRST Lego League (FLL) program is seeking adult judges and referees for upcoming tournaments from November to January. FLL develops critical skills in science and technology in a super-charged learning atmosphere. The competition involves teams of students, ages 9 to 14. This year, we expect 350 teams from around Northern California will be inspired to learn more about transportation issues and propose solutions (related to this year's theme -- Smart Move). The teams design, build, program and test an autonomous LEGO Mindstorms robot engineered to solve challenges that relate to real world climate problems developed by experts in the field. In addition, the teams learn about and create an innovative project solution that focuses on a relevant transportation issue. Students acquire skills such as problem solving, project management, critical thinking and teamwork: skills necessary to their future and the future of society. Playing At Learning, a local nonprofit, is coordinating volunteers for Northern California tournaments. All tournaments need volunteers with a particular need for judges and referees in November. Training and materials are available.
